Kissel Uptown Oakland & Monogram at Kissel
Oakland, CA
AN “OAKLANDISH” EXPERIENCE  A unique mixed-use hotel and multifamily housing complex where hotel guests and residents share the same entrance, lobby, and other amenities. The Hotel Lounge, Café, Roof Bar and other spaces become an extension of the neighborhood, shared by out-of-town visitors and locals alike.
MODERN INDUSTRIAL MATERIAL STITCHED INTO URBAN FABRIC  Glass, metal, and brick serve as the contemporary palette of the historic industrial character of this Broadway Auto Row neighborhood. A vertical composition of soaring windows and suspended glass fins emphasizes the building’s shared primary entry, while also subtly paying tribute to the nearby Paramount Art Deco marquees.
COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL ARTISTS  Based on a painting by Kelly Ording, custom printed interlays were added to the architectural glass fins stretching 70 feet above the entrance to create a permanent art installation. The residential lobby features a wall-mounted easel system for curated rotating art exhibits, hand-painted artisans feature tile wall, and social ‘maker’s’ work table, all provide opportunities for social gatherings and for residents to meet and mingle.
