Haiti Partners’ Academy
Port-Au-Prince, Haiti
AIDING COMMUNITIES THROUGH LEARNING  Actively involved with Haiti Partners since 2011, BAR has volunteered time both on-site and from our offices to design and help build a K-13 school in the hills above Port-au-Prince. The design and construction process has included local input, construction and ongoing development of the school.
A COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE  The school serves over 300 local children and the surrounding community with classrooms, places for neighborhood meetings, gardening and a paper making studio that helps generate income for the school. BAR is currently working on the design of Building 3, a three-story building with additional classrooms and multi-use space.
LOCAL MATERIALS AND SITE-SPECIFIC DESIGN  The master plan carefully wraps the buildings around the edges of the hill, preserving a central clearing in the forest for the play area. Construction materials were locally sourced, including beautiful metal louvers and doors made from oil drums by local artisans.
