What drives your interest and specialization in certain project types?
I’ve gravitated towards multifamily housing and planning for a host of reasons. Firstly, I have believed for some time that densifying cities is the only path towards a more sustainable future. For any substantive densification to be successful we must endeavor to create whole neighborhoods and quality multifamily housing that people WANT to live in.
This is the perfect professional synergy between a design challenge and positive environmental benefit. Our collective mobility, shopping and recreation patterns are changing in dramatic ways and it is our responsibility as designers to identify these trends and create a physical environment conducive to them.
When I think about the totality of my path to now multifamily housing and planning are logical outcomes given my early academic focus on studying traditional dwellings and settlement patterns in Nepal and Tibet. In that sense, I’ve always been focused on what makes “home”.
My interest in surf hospitality developed from my love of surfing. It isn’t often that you get to experience serendipity at this level. Being involved in surf hospitality projects is truly marrying business and pleasure. It is an opportunity to be a steward of surf, a culture in which I have been a part and I have a keen interest in perpetuating
