AIA SF PRESIDENTIAL COMMENDATION AWARDED TO MARK KELLY

In recognition of his years of involvement and leadership with the Committee On The Environment (COTE), AIA San Francisco awarded Mark Kelly, Associate Principal, and Director of Sustainability for BAR Architects & Interiors, with the 2024 Presidential Commendation at the AIA SF Member Celebration and Annual Meeting held in December.

As a long-term member and COTE Co-Chair, Mark continues to positively shape the dialogue on sustainability and environmental responsibility within the architectural profession. Through his leadership, advocacy, and collaborative efforts, Mark has fostered meaningful initiatives that have inspired design professionals to embrace sustainable design practices and engenders a spirit of camaraderie as our industry strives to rapidly reduce carbon. His commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation has elevated the mission of COTE and reinforced its role as a driving force for positive change in the built environment.

As Director of Sustainability at BAR, Mark is committed to increasing overall sustainability of all BAR projects. With a focus on human and environmental health and creation of beautiful places, Mark initiated and leads BAR’s 2030 Commitment and Framework for Design Excellence (FDE) efforts and BAR’s +Future Team. He works closely with clients and internal project teams to outline and achieve sustainability goals in support of project design goals. Additionally, Mark serves on the Technical Review panel for both the AIA SF and AIA CA Design Excellence Awards and is instrumental in organizing various panel sessions for the industry on sustainability.
