CHAIRITY 2024 – LUMYCEL BY RLB-BAR-YOLOTLI
October, 2024
Chairity is an annual event hosted by two where creative volunteers from the Bay Area A&D community give "forgotten items" new life and auction them off to raise money for local non-profits. Since 2017 over $500K has been raised. 2024 marks BAR’s fifth time participating in the event, and this year formed a fundraising team with construction management company RLB (Rider Levett Bucknall), and German textile artist Nicole Kelly, founder of Yolotli.
A trip to the local secondhand store resulted in choosing some bicycle rims that would hopefully meet the transformative goal of becoming a light fixture. The team then spent several weeks brainstorming, creating and constructing this years’ submission. Team member Romaisa remarked how exciting, challenging and rewarding it was to see all the pieces come together while supported by a story (read on our auction page) that truly demonstrates our intentions with what we named, Lumycel – a story of interconnction, merging timeless design with sustainability, ultimately highlighting humanity’s inherent connection with the natural world.
The auction was part of the Chairity 2024 Costume Ball held at the Gerneral’s Residence in Fort Mason, San Francisco. In all, $5,000 was raised to support four great causes: Girls Garage, Hamilton Families, Muttville, and Project Color Corps. Topping off the evening, the judges awarded BAR ‘most transformed’ entry after undergoing the biggest change from start to finish.
We look forward to participating again next year.
