“The details are not the details.” — Charles Eames
What changes do you anticipate when thinking about the future of office/architecture/design?
We must become more flexible in our design approach, more aware of our impact on each other and our environment, and more reliant on lateral thinking to address our problems. The design challenges of the future will not be solved with the thought processes of the past.
Favorite architectural term:
Iteration – the understanding that we create better solutions through the repeated process of reflection and refinement. Every design problem is multi-faceted, and good design emerges as a result of assessing a solution from many different angles.
Fun fact about you:
My father was a famous flutist, and I come from a family of classical musicians. I was a clarinetist before I was an architect. Growing up, I assumed that everyone had rehearsals and recitals in their living room. When designing a home, I still often catch myself wondering where the piano and the music stands will go.
