Law Winery
Paso Robles, CA
TERROIR-FOCUSED  The design reflects the winemaking characteristics that distinguishes Law Winery from others in the Paso Robles region – minimal manipulation and intervention, with a singular passion to showcase the natural characteristics of each varietal and specific terroir.
MODERN AGRARIAN COMPOUND  Similar to prototypical farm compounds, multiple architectural forms reflect the diverse activities to turn grapes into award-winning wine – crush, fermentation, aging, administration, and tasting – and are each represented by an expressed building-mass and roof form. Orientation of structures, roof overhangs and outdoor spaces are all positioned in direct response to sun, wind and views.
MAXIMIZING NATURE’S RESOURCES  Along with integrated night-cooling of the high thermal-mass fermentation room, the site’s natural topography is utilized to provide gravity flow wine operations which reduces energy and simplifies processing. Single-slope roofs collect rainwater directed to storage cisterns for irrigation of xeriscape plantings. PV panels, integrated into the nearby hillside, off-set annual electrical demand.
