INSPIRATION / SELECTED PROJECTS
“I delight in many things, but I have two passions in life, architecture and music. Both these art forms have the ability to connect us deeply to our creativity, and elevate our human experience. I’m grateful to have discovered both these passions in my life.”
What advice would you give to a new architect?
When a place captivates you, dwell there longer. Take in the qualities of the space that make it special and build yourself a library of those qualities translated into materials, relationships, and techniques cultivated from your lived experience and observation.
What made you decide to be an architect?
My childhood piano teacher not only opened my ears to truly listening to music – later in my teenage years, she also opened my eyes to appreciating art. She took me to museums with her, and that’s when I discovered that I loved the buildings and spaces just as much as the artwork inside them.
Three sources of inspiration:
Nature’s design – in the myriad ways it results in a synergy of form, function, and beauty; Andy Goldsworthy’s artwork in nature; Musical expression elevating our experience and connecting us meaningfully to our humanity.
What makes really great design?
Design that enlivens and enriches human beings, connecting us to a deeper sense of place, belonging, purpose, and wonder.
