What inspires you as an architect?
The opportunities, the complexity and unique aspects associated with every project. Architecture and the skills and tasks one is involved in as an architect are so diverse that every project provides new and interesting challenges. We enjoy a special opportunity to have a positive impact on people’s day to day experiences. We also have a huge opportunity and responsibility for making our communities and our world better and more sustainable. When a project is completed I love to see how it affects those that use it. It’s not every profession that allows you to so thoroughly experience what you created and to evaluate your effectiveness.

What has been one of your most exciting projects at BAR?
One of the projects I am most proud of is 38 Dolores. The context was so important and complex, including ensuring that the design reflected the character and scale of each of the three streets it faces. The design is expressive, clear, understandable and memorable. I have had many people compliment BAR on our contribution to the successful transformation of the mid-Market Street area.
